Old Appliance Removal in Duluth

Done with a fridge, washer, dryer, range or water heater? We unhook the water and dryer connections, guard your floors and door frames on the carry out, and send metal and refrigerant-bearing units to places that can process them properly.

When an Old Appliance Should Leave Your Home

Most appliances do not die all at once. A refrigerator compressor starts short-cycling, a washer's drive bearing gets loud on spin, a dryer's heating element burns out for the second time. At some point the repair bill plus the next few years of higher energy and water use costs more than the unit is worth. Once you have made that call, the old machine still has to get out of your home, and a 250-pound fridge on a narrow stairway is not a one-person job.

That is the work we do. We look at the unit, how it is connected and the path to the truck, then give you one price before we lift anything. We also tell you plainly if a part like a door gasket or a drain pump would keep a newer appliance going, because hauling off something with years left in it is money you did not need to spend.

What Happens on an Appliance Pickup

Unhooking water and vent connections
We turn off the supply valves and take off washer fill hoses, ice maker lines and dryer vent duct. When a valve is stuck or dripping, we stop and let you know instead of forcing it.
Gas units handled in the proper sequence
Before a gas range or dryer moves, the line has to be turned off and capped. We ask that a qualified gas or plumbing professional do that part, and then we haul the unit out.
A careful carry to the truck
Strapped appliance dollies, floor runners and door jamb pads come along on every job. We keep refrigerators upright when we can, so compressor oil stays out of the lines, which counts if the unit will be reused.
Refrigerant units sent to the right place
Fridges, freezers, dehumidifiers and window AC units hold refrigerant like R-134a or R-600a. We never cut a line or vent anything. These go to facilities that recover the refrigerant before scrapping the steel.
Reuse and recycling
Washers, dryers, ranges and water heaters are built largely from steel, copper and aluminum. Units that still run can be donated, and the others go to metal recycling rather than the landfill.
Cleaning up the empty spot
Pull out an old fridge or washer and you will find dust, lint and sometimes standing water. We sweep the spot so the new unit has a clean place to go.

Signs It Is Time to Haul It Away

  • Repair quotes keep stacking up

If a second major part, like a compressor, control board or transmission, is failing within a couple of years, the unit is usually past the point where repair pays back.

  • The second fridge never stops running

An older garage refrigerator in a hot Georgia summer can run almost constantly. That steady power draw often costs more over a few years than the fridge is worth.

  • Rust at the base or drum

Rust on a washer tub, dryer drum or water heater jacket means moisture has been working for a while, and leaks tend to follow.

  • A new appliance is arriving

Not every delivery crew takes the old unit, and some charge extra or only take one item. Clearing the old one first makes installation day simpler.

  • It is just sitting in the way

A dead freezer in the basement or a spare range in the carport takes space you could use, and it only gets harder to move as things pile around it.

What Changes the Price

We price appliance removal by the work involved, not by guesswork. You get upfront pricing with no hidden fees, set during the estimate after we see the unit and the path out. These are the things that move that number.

Size and weight

A compact under-counter fridge and a 36-inch French-door refrigerator are very different lifts. Weight decides how many people and what equipment the job needs.

Access and stairs

Basement units, tight hallways and doors that have to come off hinges add time. A ground-floor garage pickup is the simplest case.

Disconnection work

Removing hoses, ducting and drain lines takes time, especially on stacked washer-dryer sets.

Refrigerant and disposal path

Units holding refrigerant require recovery before recycling, so they cost more to process than a plain steel range.

Number of items

Several appliances in one trip, or an appliance added to a larger garage cleanout or basement cleanout, spreads the trip cost across more items.

How the Job Runs

  1. 1

    Phone call and estimate

You tell us what the appliance is and where it sits. We set up a free on-site estimate, look at the connections and the route out, and give you a written price before any work starts.

  2. 2

    Prep and disconnect

We lay floor runners, pad door frames and shut off water at the valve. Gas units should already be disconnected and capped by a qualified professional.

  3. 3

    Carry-out and loading

Two of us strap the unit to a dolly, walk it out step by step and secure it in the truck. Doors on refrigerators and dryers are taped shut for the ride.

  4. 4

    Sorting and sweep-up

We sweep the empty space, then route each unit to donation, scrap metal or refrigerant recovery depending on its condition and contents.

Common Appliance Pickup Questions

Does the fridge need to be emptied and defrosted beforehand?

Take the food out, please. Defrosting helps but is optional. Unplugging it a day early means less water on the floor. Either way, we tape the doors shut before moving it.

Can you unhook a gas dryer or gas range?

Gas lines are not something we disconnect. Have a qualified gas or plumbing professional turn off and cap the line first, so the fitting cannot leak. After it is capped, we take care of everything else.

Where does the refrigerant in an old fridge go?

The sealed system stays untouched. Fridges and freezers go to facilities that pull the refrigerant out before scrapping the cabinet, so none of it escapes into the air.

Would a repair make more sense than replacing it?

It can. On a unit with years left, a bad door gasket, drain pump or igniter is often an inexpensive fix. If what we see looks repairable, we will say so, even when it means leaving the unit with you.

What is the soonest you can come?

Same-day and next-day service is available, depending on that week's schedule. Give us a call and we will offer the first open time for your free estimate.
